It has been almost 5 years since the last iteration of Grand Theft Auto (GTA). Fans of the series have been eagerly awaiting a brand new GTA game and world to explore. Rockstar Games have been busy developing other titles over the past years such as Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3 and various expansion packs for GTA IV and GTA spinoffs. The GTA 5 Release Date was officially announced on October 25th 2011, the debut trailer for the game was released on 2 November, 2011 and the first demo was revealed to the press on October 11th, 2012. Since the official announcement, Rockstar Games has changed the release date multiple times citing game development as the reason behind the delays.
There was some speculation by the press, that we would see GTA 5 sometime during 2012. However, Rockstar Games made an announcement on the October 30th, 2012 informing gamers that they had planned to release GTA 5 during the Spring of 2013. Rockstar Games kept very quiet over the coming months and as 2013 came closer and as the new year began, they made another announcement regarding the release date of GTA 5. On January 30th, 2013 Rockstar Games stated the game would not be ready for a Spring 2013 release and pushed the release date back to September 17th.
Rockstar Games stated on their official website that, “GTA V is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require. Trust us, it will be worth the extra time.”
GTA 5 Release Date Regarding the PC Version
The important thing to note, since we are a PC Gaming website, is that the release date is for Xbox 360 and PS3, with no confirmation of a PC release yet. If we look at the history of the GTA IV release where PC gamers had to wait over 6 months, there might be a wait between the console and PC release of GTA 5.
The lack of a GTA 5 release date for PC and the lack of information about the PC version has sparked the PC gaming community to start a petition. With over 150 thousand supporters already signed up to the petition, it is hard to think Rockstar Games will ignore their PC fans.
There have been a few games that have tried to copy the GTA game formula, but no other game has come close to replicating the sandbox gameplay we know and love in the GTA series. We will keep you posted about any news or official announcements regarding a PC release of GTA 5, but at this point in time a PC version of GTA 5 release date is unconfirmed.
